This is a 15"x11" watercolor on 300lb hp paper. This is a Catherine Anderson technique. Love her work. Website _
Here I used multiple glazes in gradient style. Each glaze has to be bone dry before adding the next one. I masked out the herons and foliage to add a variation of texture and color depth, before the glazing process. And, it is a process. You want to retain that glow of light and keep it as pristine as possible. But things happen, I have two cats and the Beastie 1(aka Calvin) just had to leave his signature (paw print) on the glow area. Oh well;-)
Karen this is gorgeous. What a beautiful technique and a magnificant scene. beautiful painting of the birds and the atmosphere is so great.

Thank you Marja!
ReplyDeleteKaren - Thanks for telling us the technique. It's always fascinating seeing how others paint. The herons are beautiful in their misty moody atmospheric setting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Karen, perfectly painted with an interesting technique. Love the fascinating atmosphere. Ciao!
ReplyDeleteHello Karen:) They always do that, cats! I'm familiar with it:) Like they are jealous or something.
ReplyDeleteWell, it doesn't show on the painting wich is beautiful! Love the colors!
I love Catherine Anderson's work and I have her DVD. You have managed to capture the light source well in your watercolor.
